The Wildcat's Football Season Comes To A Close

Being a University of Arizona football fan has its ups and downs. Usually there are 2-3 good seasons each decade but the rest of the time they are mediocre at best. The team has topped 10 wins only three times with their best season being 1998 when they went 12-1, beat Nebraska in the Holiday Bowl and ended up ranked #4 nationally. The last couple of years under Rich Rodriguez seemed to reverse the trend and they have gone to four straight bowl games, winning 3 of them. Not many Wildcats go on to have successful NFL careers with Tedy Bruschi, Chris Singleton, Rob Gronkowski and Nick Foles being the cream of the crop… Do the Patriots know when to grab a Wildcat or what?

 

This year has been one of those down years with the Wildcats going 3-9 but ended on a positive note closing out the season the other day with a huge 56-35 win over ASU in the Territorial Cup game, which goes back to 1899. Arizona rushed for an unheard of 551 yards and 8 touchdowns in that game. There is a familiar name from the graduating class that has me wondering if he will actually get a shot with an NFL team, Trey Griffey. I don't expect he will move on to a professional football career but I wouldn't be surprised if he gave baseball a shot.

 

In June’s MLB Draft Trey was drafted by the Mariners in the 24^th Round as a nod to his father even though he hasn’t played baseball since high school, but really baseball runs deep in the Griffey family. Sure his uncle Craig didn’t pan out but when your grandfather is a two-time World Series champion and your father is a Hall of Famer the chances of having baseball skills is pretty much genetic at this point.
