Monday Question Day- $$$?

Today is question day:

What is the most money you ever spent for a card?

Mine was in either late 2006 or early 2007 when I bought my White Whale 1933 Goudey Lou Gehrig #92 for just under $1,200. Sadly, this is the same White Whale that I sold earlier this year to help with medical bills.

  1. The most I ever spent on a single card was about two months ago: I paid $800 for a Mickey Mantle 1956 Topps PSA. But just before that, I sold my Sidney Crosby Young Guns BGS 9.5 RC for about $800..so I kinda consider it a trade.

  2. In 2006 I spent $96 on a 2005 UD Past Time Pennants dual hard signed Ron Santo Billy Williams card. I love it but in general I think signed cards have come down in price so I'm guessing you could get one for less than that now.

  3. $150 on a Peyton Manning lot. Rookie, patch amd auto

  4. Last year I spent $85 on a 2009-10 Panini Hall of Famed Signatures Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (#'d to /49). It was the first one that had come up for sale in years, and since I'm working on the set, I had to have it.

  5. Back in February I won some money in Vegas, so I spent $249 on a PSA/DNA signed and slabbed 1993 BBM rookie card of Ichiro. Killed two birds with one stone. I had wanted an autograph of him for a long, long time... as well as his 1993 BBM card.

  7. I don't think I've spent more on any other card than I did on my 2012 Topps Allen & Ginter Kate Upton autograph. It was closer to $400 than it was to $300.

  8. Over $200 but below $300. Don't remember the exact total but for some reason $268 comes to mind. It was for the Elton Brand 1/1 from 2003-04 Bowman Signature. I've only gone into the triple digits for a card three times, and probably never will again, since my health has deteriorated so much I need to buy the medicine that keeps me alive every month.

  9. ~$200 for a '58 Mantle and about the same for a '57 Unitas rookie. BOTH were cards I had owned in the past but sold when I was 'taking a break' from collecting.

  10. $90 for a signed Hank Aaron 1976 SSPC. Which is the favorite card in my collection, so that works out.

  11. Willie Mays auto #/25 for $300, which I ended up selling a little while later for $600. I wasn't looking to sell, but the guy really wanted it and I couldn't say no to that.
